Frame Repair & Reconstruction

Substantial corrosion and structural damage can require far more than a patch. Schmelzle MechFab evaluates the frame, removes compromised material, and fabricates repair or replacement structure around the actual project.

Repair at the structural level

When the original frame can no longer do the job

Frame work begins with the condition that is actually present. Severe rust, failed mounting areas, and compromised sections may call for removal, reconstruction, or fabricated replacement pieces rather than a surface repair.

This is structural fabrication and repair work—not general mechanical service. Project suitability depends on access, the extent of damage, surrounding structure, intended use, and whether a sound repair path can be established.

A documented reconstruction

Corroded structure to fabricated replacement

This sequence shows the scale of work involved when badly deteriorated structure must be exposed, removed, rebuilt, and fitted back into the vehicle.

  1. Severe perforating corrosion in a truck frame rail near a mounting point
    01

    Severe corrosion

Inspection exposed extensive perforation and loss of sound frame material.

  2. Removed rust-damaged truck frame section showing extensive metal loss
    02

    Damaged structure removed

Compromised material was taken out so the reconstruction could begin from usable structure.

  3. Pickup body supported above the separated rust-damaged frame during reconstruction
    03

    Vehicle and frame separated

The body was supported while the original frame and repair area were made accessible.

  4. Fabricated steel replacement section fitted into an existing truck frame rail
    04

    Replacement sections fitted

New steel structure was fabricated and fitted around the surviving frame and mounting areas.

  5. Reconstructed truck frame rail with fabricated sections and mounting points
    05

    Structural frame reconstructed

The finished repair restores continuous fabricated structure through the damaged area.

  6. Underside view of the reconstructed frame structure after fabrication

The underside view shows the extent of the fabricated replacement structure.

Toyota pickup project

A custom-built replacement frame

The Toyota pickup shown here received a custom-built replacement frame because its original frame was rusted beyond repair. The project is a clear example of Schmelzle MechFab taking on structural work that falls well outside ordinary automotive parts replacement.

Every frame project is evaluated individually. Clear photographs of the damage and the vehicle or equipment application help the shop determine whether an in-person inspection makes sense.
